"I could have made the book far stronger as a piece of polemic and indefinitely more amusing as a piece of record, but I have not written it as a piece of polemic or as a piece of record. I have written it as an attempt at justice." -- Hilaire Belloc

let's not necessarily brand this work as "anti-Semitic". try putting yourself in the shoes of the time (or Tuesday as Belloc would say) and looking at this work in that context. it's easy to look at this from today's perspective and be negative about it. it was very prescient considering the horrors that happened during WWll. i see Belloc as having a rather enlightened way of seeing the situation for his time. many, of not most, folks at that time would probably had a much less forgiving view of the situation. the Zionist movement in todays' Israel that followed all the horror of the 40's has a familiar Belloc 'ring' to it as to part of solving the 'problem'. Wouldn't you agree? try to get past of what today passes as "rhetorical verbiage" and into the heart of what he says.
